Turf Translocation
For one project in Wales we were required to move an area of grassland designated as a SINC (Scientific Interest Nature Conservation) from one site to another over a distance of two and a half miles by road.
As there is a limited market for the purchase of turf translocation equipment we designed and manufactured in house our own hydraulically operated cutting and laying heads.
The translocation heads were then fitted to two thirteen tonne hydraulic excavators and the work was carried out and completed in a period of six weeks during the winter months.
The heads can be altered for cutting various thicknesses of turf.
The total area of turf translocated was approximately 12000 square meters. The size of the turfs were 2 meter x 1 meter x 300mm thick.
The aim of this project was to allow the developers to comply with the planning requirments. The project was a complete success and the translocation field thrived in the new location evidenced by the wildflowers in bloom three months later.
Since then LANDMARC have completed a number of successful turf translocation projects as a testimony to the quality of our turf translocation system.
