Turf Translocation
Turf translocation is often used to preserve flora and fauna, especially where developers need to comply with planning requirements. As there is a limited market for turf translocation equipment, we have designed and manufactured our own hydraulically operated cutting and laying heads in house. We are able to alter the heads to allow cutting varying thicknesses of turf.
The pictures below show one project in Wales designated as SINC (Scientific Interest Nature Conservation) where we transferred grassland from between sites two and a half miles away by road.
The total area of turf was approximately 12000 square metres and the size of the turfs was 2 metres x 1 metre x 300mm thick. Our specially designed cutting heads were fitted to two thirteen tonne hydraulic excavators and the work was carried out over six weeks during the winter months.
The success of the project can be seen by the picture of the wild flower, Penalta, in bloom three months later.
We have completed a number of successful turf translocation projects nationwide as testimony to the quality of our system and approach.
